Community Bath House

Location: Govan, Glasgow, UK

Date: January 2016

Govan has experienced a loss of community and feels fragmented at present – contributing to the area’s deprivation. A bath house in Govan was seen as an opportunity to have the power to reignite a community spirit. The approach was taken to locate the bath house addressing both the River Clyde and a rejuvenated market square. The form and aesthetic of the bath house sought to offer a contemporary reminder of shipyard buildings previously located on the site, in the civic memory of Govan people. Corten steel facades and timber lined interiors offer a simplicity of material and hark back to the area’s industrial past.
